  38. Microsoft provides a replacement for the X400GATE.EXE file that is included
  39. with version 3.2 of Microsoft Mail Gateway to X.400. The replacement file
  40. corrects a number of problems in the original X400GATE.EXE file.
  41.  
  42. For complete information about obtaining and installing the X400GATE.EXE
  43. file, see the "To replace your X.400 executable files" section at the end
  44. of this article.

  46. MORE INFORMATION
  47. ================
  48.  
  49. This replacement file corrects the following problems:
  50.  
  51.  - Characters with diacritical marks (accents) are improperly encoded.
  52.  
  53.  - The encoded information type (EIT) for ISO-6937 is improperly
  54.    encoded.
  55.  
  56.  - The gateway does not update the RECV.LOG file for messages received
  57.    by the gateway.
  58.  
  59.  - The gateway hangs if the subject line contains enough spaces (ASCII
  60.    32D or 20H) after the subject text to cause the total length to be
  61.    74 or more characters.
  62.  
  63.  - The gateway hangs if a user forwards or replies to a message that
  64.    was previously returned by the X.400 gateway (usually because of a
  65.    bad address). This forward or reply message adds characters to the
  66.    subject line, changing the total length to 74 or more characters,
  67.    with spaces in the seventy-fourth and following positions.
  68.  
  69.  - The gateway tp4 stack incorrectly replies to a recovery packet and
  70.    displays "ERROR: Pconnect..."
  71.  
  72.  - The gateway hangs after it processes two messages that have large
  73.    distribution lists.
  74.  
  75.  - The gateway generates an "ERROR 58" message when it transmits mail
  76.    or attachments to an ISODE Openpath user, even though the user
  77.    successfully receives the message.
  78.  
  79.  - The gateway generates invalid minor synchronization points, causing
  80.    an "ERROR 3." If debug mode is used, the error "DEBUG (tp4_recv):
  81.    connection x: tp_receive() failed" occurs.
  82.  
  83.  - The gateway begins to create nondelivery reports. If the External
  84.    Mail program tries to deliver these reports, the following error
  85.    occurs in the SYSTEM.LOG file: "Message was not delivered: routing
  86.    file was corrupted."
  87.  
  88.  - The gateway generates a free-form name longer than the 64 character
  89.    limit specified in NIST, causing the message to be rejected by the
  90.    receiving message transfer agent (MTA).
  91.  
  92.  - The gateway runs out of memory when you use ISO6937 as message body
  93.    text. The gateway then misplaces subsequent messages, reporting the
  94.    error "ERROR 3 (AttachP2): ISO6937 conversion failed."
  95.  
  96.  - If the gateway is configured to use a checkpoint size of 10, it may
  97.    display the error "DEBUG (T4 SEND): CONNECTION 32: TP SEND() FAILED: 3."
  98.    It then will not process any more messages.
  99.  
  100.  - If a large (4000 or more names) custom address map exists, the gateway
  101.    may process messages slowly.
  102.  
  103.  - Read receipts and delivery notifications may be sent to the incorrect
  104.    address by Softswitch EMX if the unique identifier the Microsoft Mail
  105.    Gateway to X.400 places on each message is not unique.
  106.  
  107. To replace your X.400 executable files
  108. --------------------------------------
  109.  
  110. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER
  111.  
  112.    copy <path>\x400gate.exe <destination>
  113.  
  114. where <path> is the drive and directory where you ran the self-extracting
  115. X400GA.EXE file and <destination> is the drive and directory where your
  116. X.400 executable files currently reside. For example, if the X.400
  117. executable files are located in the MAILEXE directory on drive C and you
  118. ran the self-extracting file from the TEST directory on drive D, type the
  119. following command:
  120.  
  121.    copy d:\test\x400gate.exe c:\mailexe
  122.  
  123. NOTE: The X400GATE.EXE file typically resides on the postoffice server in
  124. the Mail executables directory as well as on the machine where the gateway
  125. is running. Make sure all copies are updated appropriately.
